One of the features discussed that will be included within Civilization 6’s new update is the addition of four Secret Societies. Upon discovering and joining them, Secret Societies offer some additional benefits, including the choosing of a governor. Each governor has four unique promotions, and are not tied to a specific city. The promotional effects with apply to a player’s entire civilization.
They went on to detail The Owls of Minerva Secret Society. Joining this Secret Society grants access to the Guilded Vault, a new building that has all of the benefits of the bank but also provides commercial hubs, gold, adjacency bonus as culture, as well as granting an additional trade route for cities with a harbor.

Next they covered The Hermetic Order, a Secret Society made up of scientists and alchemists. Their possess the ability to see Ley Lines, a new map resource that gives standard adjacency bonuses to all specialty districts. They can also grant bonus yields whenever a Great Person is earned. Any members of this Secret Society can build the Alchemical Society, which is a new building that replaces the regular University building. It contains all pre-existing effects of the regular University building but also provides additional Great Merchant points, Great Engineer points, increased production, and gold.
The Voidsingers were the next Secret Society discussed; joining them unlocks the Old God Obelisk, which replaces the Monument. The Old God Obelisk possesses all of the Monument’s baseline effects, but gives additional Great Work and Faith slots. The Voidsingers also have unique units, called cultists which can be purchased with Faith; they can be used to recruit followers in enemy cities and reduce the target city’s loyalty.
The final and possibly most exciting Secret Society detailed was that of the Sanguine Pact, which unlocks the brand new Vampire Unit. The unit gains combat strength whenever adjacent units perish, and instead of dying in battle, will be able to flee with one HP remaining. Vampire Castles can be placed in any tile in your territory or in a neutral territory. They grant defensive bonuses and extra yields, and can eventually allow for units to teleportation between them. Overall, the Ethiopia Pack proves to offer plenty of new content with the addition of Secret Societies, governors, and new leaders.
