Slated for an October 28 release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 seems to be taking the core gameplay of its predecessor and expanding on it in a few ways. Though its campaign has been a focus of the trailers released so far, every Call of Duty fan knows that the real meat and potatoes of any entry is its multiplayer, being the mode that fans will return to long after the game’s first week of release. With not a lot revealed about Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer yet, fans have been left to speculate, and there are a few classic Perks that some are hoping to see return this year.

Iconic Perks That Should Be In Modern Warfare 2

One of the key elements that set Call of Duty 4 apart from its competitors back in the day was its customizable classes, and in particular, the ability to select three distinct Perks. These Perks grant the player special abilities on the field, ranging from normal, stat-boosting abilities like increased health, to more unusual options, such as dropping a grenade after death. In the years that have followed Call of Duty 4, Perks have become an essential part of any Call of Duty class, with each selection playing a vital role in how a player can perform.

One classic Call of Duty Perk that’s an absolute must-have for Modern Warfare 2 is Sleight of Hand. Debuting at the very beginning in Call of Duty 4, Sleight of Hand increases the player’s reload speed. For a fast-paced game like Call of Duty, any increase to reload speed is pretty much essential to have, especially when the weapon has a smaller clip. In the original Modern Warfare 2, a Pro version of the Perk was introduced, which along with the 50% boost to reload speed also provided a decrease in the time needed to aim down sights. Sleight of Hand has appeared in nearly every Call of Duty, and it certainly shouldn’t be skipped over in Modern Warfare 2.

Another staple Perk of the franchise that needs to come to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is Overkill. Another Perk that debuted in CoD4, Overkill allows the player to equip another primary weapon in their secondary slot. While this often increases the weapon swap speed, the trade-off is more than worth it in most scenarios, giving players even more freedom in how they approach their own class customization.

Though it isn’t necessarily the most useful Perk, Marathon should come to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Marathon grants the player unlimited sprint duration. One of the biggest criticisms from 2019’s Modern Warfare was that the multiplayer felt a tad sluggish and slow, so the inclusion of this Perk could help to alleviate that in the sequel. On top of this, the Lightweight Perk, which grants players a speed increase, could also be used to keep Modern Warfare 2’s pace up.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches October 28 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
